Cabin Air Dryers

Post by gulfcoastsailor »

Regarding electric air dryers:
Any comments on the two most popular?

Davis Instruments 1458 130 Watt Air Dryer

Ironwood Pacific DryWave 1000 Air Dryer

Thanks in advance for any comments.

If someone can explain how any of these devices actually DRY the air, I would be very interested. From what I can see, all they do is warm the air. The only thing that accomplishes this is a dehumidifier.

The unit that I now use is the Dry-Pal made by MerMaid http://www.mmair.com/marine_division/dehumidifiers. Ebac also makes marine units, but the MedMaid is more compact.

I know what you mean! I am buying into this description from one of the companies.

"By gently warming surrounding air to just above the dew point, this dryer inhibits surface moisture that mold needs to form and reproduce."
