Has anybody else had this problem?

My F35 Pedrick has a 35lb CQR anchor. My boat is at a mooring. If I store the anchor on the anchor roller, the tip of the anchor catches the lines of my bridal pennant. The tip of the anchor projects approx 3" below the lines and chafes as the boat swings at the mooring. The CQR is pulled back as far as possible on the roller. I have adjusted the roller location fore and aft with no change, and I have tried to shorten the distance between where the pennant "Y"s off and the bow but it doesn't help. The CQR is a good anchor so I'd like to keep it but having to haul out the 35lb anchor out of the anchor locker every time I need it is a hassle. It is also not as safe as I'd like it to be if I need to get the hook down quickly.

I looked at the Delta anchors. They appear to have less "height", or distance between the shaft and tip of the anchor. It might make the difference.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Mike O

I think that you'll find that many anchors do this. Personally I think that you should pick the anchor that you want to use and figure out how to deal with this problem. I've had the same problem and I simply tie a line to the anchor and pull it up so that the mooring line doesn't chafe on it.

Geoff,

You were right about other anchors having the same problem. I tried a Delta anchor and the same thing happened. I guess I'll either hike the anchor up a bit at the mooring or keep it stowed in the anchor locker. I'll put it on the roller when I cruise, or when I know I'll be needing it. I also have a Fortress in the locker that I can get out quickly if I need it. The Fortress is WAY easier to handle than the CQR and is good for the bottom types that I normally see.

I might also try a couple of chafe guards on the bridle pennant and see how that goes.

Thanks,
Mike
