What equipment is needed to rig a roller furler on a F21

Post by Teke's Pride »

I do a lot of single handed sailing and want to rig a roller furler on my F21 to improve my windward performance in club racing. I plan on mounting the unit to the cross bar of the bow pulpit so as not to obstruct the spinnaker launch opening. So, my question is this... does anyone have any experience with the Harken 1851 Small staysail furler or the Harken 435 High-load furler? What about the Schaefer Free-Furling System 550?

Any advice as to which to use or other suggestions on products that may work better?

I know my class staysail will need to be recut due to the position of the tack being further aft than designed and the furling hardware will require the luff of the sail to be shortened.
