The Gooseneck Bracket Bolt Access Plug

Post by mercifulreleases »

I just wanted to cross reference (for Google as much as anything else) a trick courtesy of Mark Edwards and Paul Dennis: in case you need to access the bolts holding the Gooseneck Bracket in place (which I did, as mine snapped in Buzzards Bay last October), there's a small 1" access plug on the front of the mast. The angles are pretty tight, but using a very small flashlight and long socket wrench, my repair people were able to hold the bolt heads in place for a bracket change. Paul did mention that, should you need to change the bolts, it might be necessary to drop the mast and position it with the access hole facing up.

Happiness,
Andrew

Good to know. Thought the opening might have been for some other hardware in the past. On my boat the cover for the opening is gone. Believe someone had used a hole plug from a breaker box before, but not a good choice due to rust. Any ideas for a ‘plug’. Thanks
