Rigger in RI

Post by GeoffSchultz »

I need a recommendation for a rigger, and yes, we're talking about a Freedom! I need to have my forestay remade. Who have you used that you liked?

Geoff,
As long as the headstay is the same length, any boatyard can make one. Now if it is gone, call Paul or Mark for length specifications.

I've got the specs, but BlueJacket is in Guatemala and believe me, there's no one down there to make it.

Is your boat still being repaired from the lightning strike? It must be challenging arranging repairs in Guatemala from here? It sounds like you're in the RI area. If you'd like to go out for a sail on our 40/40, we'd be happy to have you. It's on the Sakonnet River.

Riki,

Thanks for the offer. I may take you up on it some time. Where is your boat located? I used to be in Brewers Sakonnet.

Right now I'm spending money like a drunken sailor (which sometimes I resemble) ordering parts. It takes about a month for the parts to get down there and go through customs (which adds 33% to the cost). Once the parts have arrived I'll head to Guatemala via Honduras to assist in the rebuild.

That must be a hard and frustrating process. Our boat is at Pirate's Cove Marina - we dinghy off the Tiverton side. We frequently sail by Brewer's Sakonnet. This is a really lovely area to sail. Let us know when you'd like to join us.

Good luck with trying to fix your boat remotely!

HI Geoff,

I have had very good service with New England Yacht Rigging in East Greenwich. Great folks, they replaced my lazy jacks, as well as some other parts on my F32.

I was thinking that this was Concord, RI (which I had never heard of, but could easily believe). I was surprised when it was Concord, MA as I don't think of Concord as a boating center. Anyhow, I have an e-mail in to them for a quote. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes, i was surprised too. When I met with them they had many thoughts on the forestay. Seemed to know their stuff. Best of luck.
