Carbon Fiber Camber Spar?

Post by gulfcoastsailor »

No doubt this has been mentioned somewhere before, but I did not see it.

While showing off my boat, discussion turned to the Bierig spar. I was asked if a carbon fiber replacement would be of benefit. Weight came to mind of course, but I am wondering if anyone has made this modification or may have opinion on the pluses or minuses.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I had a seriously bent camberspar last year. It was fixed but I also considered a carbon replacement. I assumed the cost would be prohibitive, at least for a one off, but the weight savings would be substantial.

The other thing I would love to see is a faster, more secure way to get the spar and sail off and back on. By secure I mean not loosing parts in the process.
