Masthead loops
Can anyone tell me what these may be for? I have four of them at the masthead. Three are the same size and one is slightly smaller.

Re: Masthead loops
They're likely for hanging blocks for additional halyards. I had one like that on my old masthead that was for a topping lift.

Re: Masthead loops
I have one on my Mull 30 and it is for a small block for the flag halyard.
Re: Masthead loops
Ditto my Mull 32, although in my case, there wasn't a block when I bought the boat, and I have been using the same messenger line for the last dozen or so years with no problems raising/lowering various flags -- although I personally would not think of using it for anything other then small flags...

Re: Masthead loops
There is a small block near the point where the main halyard exits the mast which has a thin line for flags. These seen to be pretty solid attachment points. They are far more robust than would be needed for a flag halyard. The mystery continues.
