Re: My first sailboat is a Freedom 28 Mull

Welcome aboard. They are cool boats. You didn’t say where you are. If anywhere near southern Maryland/Chesapeake bay, let me know, if you need any help, either with maintenance or sailing. I have owned Freedom 28CK for 12 years, I convinced three of my friends to buy one and I know boats fairly well...

Re: 28 CK with extra ballast?

On my 1980 f28ck floor just glued to underlying fiberglass.
It is 1/4 inch sheet of plywood.
Also mizzenmast step is set on top of the plywood.

Re: engine sizing for an F28 ck Hoyt

I have original yanmar 2qm15 13 hp motor.
I have no problem to cruise at 5.5 knots with max just over 6 knots in ideal conditions.
Not sure about prop size, it is two blade, I believe original one.

Re: Plywood rot below port?

I have f28 ck 1980 Hull #10. My sides are cored . You might have a problem with side thickness and ports. Make sure, if you keep the wood, that your mounting bolts are long enough. I replaced plywood in v-birth and I patched rotten spots everywhere else using bongo 2-parts wood repair product from H...

Re: 28 CK Ice box drain location?

Since it is hull#4 it is centerboard model and the icebox is on port side next to a companionway, right? The drain is very much directly into bulge via short hose exiting into engine compartment. I took my box apart, so I don’t recall where the drain was exactly, but it terminated either into engine...

Re: My survey

Could it be Freedom 32 Mark 2?
There were two Freedom 32 models produced
One, designed by Garry Hoyt, it’s production run ended around 1985
Another one designed by Gally Mull, with production run started around 1984.
I guess yours is newer Mull design.

Re: 1981 FREEDOM 33 CAT KETCH MAIN MAST

Are you sure folding prop will fit into spot? On F28, identical, but smaller, there is no way folding prop can fold without hitting the rudder.

Re: Freedom 32 vs 32-2

Hoyt’s f32 is a spacious boat with decent sailing characteristics. Mull’s f32 will be a smaller boat. I didn’t sail mull f 32, I spent some time on F36. overall mulls boats are very very good boats. I suspect that the boat will be faster and a better boat overall. Mull’s boat are very well designed....

Re: SEACOCKS

Really? You can’t just go and count all of them? Why would you buy an old boat then? There are at lest three discharge ones. Head (I mean toilet), galley (I mean kitchen) sink and a head sink. There are at least two intake ones. Engine. Head(toilet) . Previous owner could add one for raw water washi...

Re: 1981 FREEDOM 33 CAT KETCH MAIN MAST

I also would look for any freedom masts starting with Freedom 30 sloop. Longer masts can be just cut to the size.
