Re: Freedom 39' pilothouse schooner

You may want to contact Brewer Yacht Sales in CT. They have the Quaker II which, if I remember correctly, is a 1985. I was on this boat last year and she is beautiful and super clean, but never met the owner. It is located at their Manhassett, NY location (Long Island Sound). The listing broker was ...

Re: Freedom 39 PH survey, things to watch out for?

Sorry for the late response. I found the hull and deck structure to be very well made. Mine was hand laid up in th engineering facility, but those from the manufacturing house should be about the same. If anything, the fiberglassing often seems to be overly thick. All of the factory thru-hulls are p...

Re: Replacing Fuel Tanks on 1985 Pilothouse Schooner

I did have a leaky port side tank. Actually looked like a screw had been run through and not from corrosion. I replaced both tanks even though the other held 5 psi since it is a job best tackled only every couple of decades and I don't much life left in 30 year old tanks. The most important thing is...

Re: Muffler/Exhaust - Freedom 39

I wound up going with 2 inch inside diameter wired hose. This was primarily due to routing issue with larger exhaust hose (passing through to the aft compartment and bending a gooseneck below the cockpit. I kept the length to a minimum with minimal bends (only a small bend at the outlet). A larger h...

Re: Why did some Freedoms come without deck collars?

My foremast is original and even has the original wedge. Since water entering goes into the chain locker I don't pay much attention other than adding drain holes in the locker bottom to make sure the drainage is to the bilge and not the cabin I have noticed that the partner for the main is slightly ...

Re: Curtains in a F32

I saw a 39 pilothouse (Quaker II) with mesh covers for the large pilothouse glazing. They also have interior curtains. Since the glazing is clear the mesh covers where snapped on when at port to both add some privacy while letting light in as well as added some UV protection. I thought they were a g...

Re: Why did some Freedoms come without deck collars?

On my F39ph there are no deck collars. I too noticed many others with the collars and thought the block attachment was nice and clean. I happened to chat with Paul Dennis a while back and asked why some had collars. It seems Freedom added them more for aesthetics, but functionally they did provide b...

Re: Deck/hull Seam Leak

Thanks for the response. I was thinking of doing basically the same, especially after my caulk experiment did eliminate the leak. After reading yet another with the same issue my curiosity got to me and I had to find out the base cause. And hearing about your fix I became inspired and assumed the is...

Deck/hull Seam Leak

The 39 pilothouse has a pair of toe rail weep holes (or gutter drains as some have referred to them) located at approximately the transition of the cockpit/pilot house. They are a small depression (1/2” or so) “D” shape adjacent to the toe rail and continuing below to allow water to drain from the s...

Re: Introducing myself!

Eric, Welcome aboard, and you have a really great boat. You'll find a wealth of knowledge (as I have) within this forum and the members provide excellent knowledge, expertise, and experience. I have a 39 pilothouse, hull #6. It’s a full gut job and a few years into the project we are not quite done....
