Re: Replace Exhaust Elbow? - Freedom 30

Congrats on the "new" boat" I think you're gonna love it. I have a F38. The exhaust elbow and its connection to the outside are hinky on the Freedoms (note the white caulking holding it in place) so this is as good a time as any to fix this. That elbow itself should be replaced (not "repair" as the ...

Re: dismasted freedom 39 ph

This is the first I'd heard masts were originally laid up in multiple pieces. I have heard; however, about sleeving a mast to repair a a break. Certainly Eric Sponberg would know this history of the original masts (but maybe not the 39s...?).

Re: dismasted freedom 39 ph

This is the other area that I was curious about. From my untrained and inexpert eye, it looks like the mast was built in four sections, but maybe the connecting pieces were superficially laid up?

Re: dismasted freedom 39 ph

I had the same questions as Geoff. Is this the original mast? What year was it? That it came down in 12 knots seems really strange. Is the main mast built the same? I am so curious about this because there is so little information on failure of these masts. My single one from 1988 seems to have been...

Re: Camber spar patent #4,503,796

Mike, nice to see the patent on this. I am not sure staying true to the original form is the way to go. I have gone round and round with Michael Jefferson (Mouton Noir) about the camberspar and the sail in general. He absolutely hated it and thought I was going to kill myself for using it. I am fine...

Re: Replacement mast wedge

Hey Tony, I've been meaning to chime in here for a while now. It looks like you're getting a lot of good feedback. It is interesting to hear of different perspectives. As you know, my mast got a wedgie going to Hawaii and back. I think it was because I did something really stupid at the yard when we...

Re: 2022 Pac Cup

Hey guys! Thanks for the postings. Kynntana returned to her slip in Oakland on the morning of August 19. We had some great sailing, some unbelievably difficult sailing, and some no sailing with a glassy sea. Anything the Pacific could throw at us, it did. Yes, I am not sure how I talked myself into ...

Re: 2022 Pac Cup

Thanks, Camino! I think it was a tough passage for many of the initial starters because of the low winds those first few days. For us, on Kynntana, I had an all green crew with very little offshore experience at all. I haven't checked the tracks but I think we did not navigate that well either. Stud...
