Re: And it begins

And another thing - now is the time to check access to the fresh water (with anti-freeze of course) drain from the cylinder block. Beta engines are notoriously bad for this - see the Beta Owners Group on facebook. Also check all the wiring for chafe against numerous jaggy bits on engine. They should...

Re: And it begins

Engine looks great - benefit of going for the wee 25. One point to ponder is that there should be an air vent in the raw water loop between the heat exchanger and the exhaust injection. I ran the air pipe up the inside of the aft end of the cabin with an overflow into the cockpit which discharges wa...

Re: New (to me) Freedom 33

Jay, Is it a Dickenson heater underneath the chimney? I have found by accident that mine is less troubled by strong winds and downdraughts WITHOUT the H-bit, or any other chimney - just the short pipe. I would like to try it with a slightly longer straight pipe but it's too much bother to chase one ...

Re: New (to me) Freedom 33

Hi there, looks great. Unusual deck layout aft of the mast - centre companionway? I'd be very interested in a few photos of the saloon and cockpit. When somewhat younger, I used to speculate about 'improving' the boat with a centre companion as far aft as possible and decking over the aft cabin (my ...

Re: Cat ketch heave to

Hi Gerald, I was at the Tall Ships in Shetland (great, esp for loads of local trad music and pop-up bars) but we didn't meet. You've still to see my wee rescue Sky-Dog who is seaworthy but requires that we do the shortest hops, taking in Fairisle and N Ron at the very least. She has an 'endearing' h...

Re: Cat ketch heave to

I have never been hove to in a storm on my CK35 LK but have done so on a nice day to await the turn of the tide by double reefing the frontsail and pulling it well to the windward rail - you might take a line from the leech reef cringles. Then ease the backsail a little and put the helm down. In ver...

Re: Freedom 33/35 weight (centreboard version)

This spring, the slipway crew said that the long-keeled Arran Comrades weighed in at approx 6800kg on launching with a fair amount of gear but little fuel or water aboard. Masts and all rigging except the frontsail included.

Re: mast wedge help

Hello, I have a 'second batch' UK F35 CK with alloy spars. My deck seal looks very like: Post by patrick@paradox » Tue Mar 07, 2023 11:17 am (above). The rubber was damaged the first time I took the mast out but I was able to buy an 'off the shelf'' strip online - Heaven knows where from. While bein...

Re: Freedom 35 CK reefing system. Advise needed

Hello Dom (?) Ow! Single line reefing is way beyond my experience with Freedoms. With my standard CK35 rig, reefing with two lines is (relatively) straightforward but when un-reefing, there's a lot of friction in the lines, largely as they're between the doubled over sailcloth. I guess your boat is ...

Re: Freedom 35 CK reefing system. Advise needed

Hello, I'm not familiar with the term Tanton Rig, but from Google it looks much like that used on the Nonsuch boats. I have been using a surplus Moody 34 mainsail in place of my wrap-around frontsail as a 'winter' sail with a bespoke sleeve round the mast rather than a track. Unfortunately there are...
