Re: AGM vs Lithium

It depends on the specification of the battery and the requirement from the starter motor. Lead acid will generally provide high current and as the current increases the voltage will drop, limiting any damage to the battery. A CCA rating will tell you what it is capable of (cold cranking amps), usua...

Re: Freedom Videos

Lifting our Freedom 21 in Whitehaven a few weeks ago. Now the is in the drive waiting for some decent weather to try to get my keels properly primed and antifouled. My last attempt seems to have rusted off. https://youtu.be/mI1ZYuja6gQ IMG_0515.jpeg Next season we will launch on Derwent water in the...

Re: AGM vs Lithium

you can still use your Freedom HF, as long as you set it for flooded, see table from the manual: Freedom HF.jpg I assume you are talking about LifePo4 batteries, which are less power dense but much safer than other lithium chemistries. Charging regime for these batteries is 14.2-14.6V bulk, with a f...

Re: F21 mast swaying

If you like I can measure up my rig, it is made from aluminium right angle section about 2"x2" and about 3/16 thick, which is plenty strong enough. Or you could use 2"x4" framing wood. I need to raise the mast to the very top of my frame with the strop just below the balance point to get the base ov...

Re: F21 mast swaying

Ian, there is a salient thread here, in which someone professes to have better full size pdfs of the same plans. It's 3 or so years old but you might be able to get them still. It is here, scroll down to the images and read. https://www.sailnet.com/threads/freedom-21-tabernacle-mast-hinge-retrofit.2...

Re: F21 mast swaying

Hi Ian, that is not something I would want to ignore, any movement is going to create wear and more stress from the impact of the thunks you are hearing. I do not have a tabernacle mast but I think the tabernacle is just a reinforced hinge above the deck, so at deck level it should be the same as my...

Re: Freedom Videos

A couple of videos for the new year. I think 2024 is going to be an interesting one for us. We have decided to try out a berth on Derwent water in the English Lake District, approximately 3 miles by 1 mile and surrounded by mountains. Anyway, our last summer sail out of Whitehaven https://www.youtub...

Re: Freedom 21 new 'blade jib' design

We may have had a bit of a tide against us to start with but no more than 1/2knt, but on the bigger waves... bang and we were almost stopped. I think next time I will try it with fuller sail (more power), even though we had a good breeze. I tend not to reef until 16-18 knts and do not have any troub...
