Re: Moving F38 US to UK
As well as shipping costs, you will have to factor in import duties, which I imagine would be at standard VAT rate of 20% of the boat's value. I would also imagine there would be some other handling fees to throw in there as well. One big issue is that any imported boat will be required to conform t...

Fairways Marine Balsa Core question
Hi. Can anyone with a Fairways marine built Freedom (33/35) tell me what to expect by way of potential vulnerability of the balsa coring to water ingress. I'm in the process of buying one, & have always considered balsa cored deck / hulls to be something of a weak point - I would consider removing a...

Sponberg Carbon mast repairs
Hi all. Could anyone who has been through the remediation process devised by Eric Sponberg, to repair the circumferential cracking in the carbon fibre masts on Freedom 33/35 or similar, give me any indication on total man hours spent on the two masts, all told (so I guess that's grinding back the ge...

Re: dismasted freedom 39 ph
Freedom 39 ph masts were constructed in 2 pieces and then joined together at the factory ( as per eric Schonberg) you may confirm this with him if you like, dont know about the other boats , the splice consists of an approx 1/8 inch x 3 foot internal sleeve, the wall thickness of the sleeve is supp...

Re: dismasted freedom 39 ph
So is this a Tillotson Pearson mast? I don't know about your F39, but I know the TP carbon fibre masts on the F35 / F33 have known issues with circumferential cracking, for which Eric Sponberg devised a remedy. Had yours ever shown sign of that circumferential cracking? Has it been through Eric's re...

What material is the mast made of, & what were the circumstances that led to this, if I might ask?

Re: Cutlass (Morse) Bearing Removal - F-33
You can try knocking it out with a wooden drift first, but if it won't come out easily then yes, you'll have to make yourself a puller with a long bolt with a washer on the inboard end, as you say. You'll need a short section of (e.g.) scaffold pole to go over your stern tube (otherwise how does the...
