Made it through Michael okay

My Hoyt 32 "Justiina" made it through hurricane Michael last week. There was so much storm surge the floating docks were within a foot or so of floating over and off the pilings. Didn't happen though and Justiina didn't suffer a single scratch, though the storm did make the decision about how long t...

Re: R&R engine controls F39PH

Try to pry just on the outer rim of the chrome hub to remove it. There may be another flat part under there that is part of the mounted shifter mechanism part. (That's from memory, I might be wrong about that.)

Re: R&R engine controls F39PH

I've had my identical control off. As I recall the black knob just screws off and you fully loosen the set screw 180 degrees from the shift lever. You can now pry the lever and hub off. It is some sort of star shape so it has to come straight off by continually prying all around the hub so it doesn'...

Re: F32 Gale strength winds.

Dale, this is a terrific post and it's good to hear that you're under way again. I am super interested in the fore reaching and I'm going to try it next time I'm out in some rougher weather. I've tried heaving-to with confusing, indifferent results and never found anything that worked well. I never ...

Re: F32 Keel bolts

That is my understanding, too. The bolts were molded into the keel at an angle, sticking up like a "W". The holes for them in the bottom of the keel stub weren't round, they were oblong slots so the angled bolts could pass into the bilge. The keel was attached, the oblong holes were filled with glas...

Re: Gun Mount Spinnakers

I did measure my pole again and confirm that it is 18' long x 4" OD but looks to be at least 3/16" wall thickness. Spinnaker pole supplier RigRight lists their 4" pole as .120 thickness so mine is over half again as thick. That seems right to me, given it must resist a bending load. I took some pict...

Re: Gun Mount Spinnakers

Hi Mike, There was another thread here about rigging on a gun mount spinnaker and I always meant to participate in that but life has taken some funny bounces lately and I just never quite got around to it. I'll try to take some pictures later this week of the set up I have. It would seem to me that ...

Re: Forestay on Freedom 38

You can easily put up a drifter but it wouldn't surprise me if you find that the gains are borderline disappointing. I doubt that the boat would point better and Freedoms already just inherently reach so well that it probably won't add enough to be worth the rigamarole. I actually have a rope luff l...

Re: Forestay on Freedom 38

Give away your tension gauge. "Loose" means wildly, unbelievably loose. It's not really a forestay, it's more like a guide to get the sail up and down. It should not be anywhere near tight, nothing like conventional standing rigging. When the sail is down wiggle the forestay vigorously. The middle o...
