Re: 27 vs 24 HP for 1988 Freedom 36/38

It's good to know about your experience. Thank you. The following is the answer I got back from the Yanmar Corporation. I sent the email early last night, and there was a response at 6:17 am Pacific time. THAT was great.... All Yanmar engines come with two ratings. One is a continuous output rating ...

27 vs 24 HP for 1988 Freedom 36/38

OK, last question before I buy this boat (or not). The boat was represented in its listing as a 27 HP Yanmar, but it is actually a 24 HP. Would it be seriously under-powered? Why do all the other similar Freedoms for sale right now show 27 or 28 HP for 87 and 88 models. Was this more typical for goo...

Re: Water in bilge

I definitely have no interest in finding out how much water a boat can take on before it gets serious....I don't even like saying that! After another look at everything including the strut, it looks like it is just a small amount of existing water that the sump can't pick up. Because the float switc...

Water in bilge

Hi, I am one day away from closing on a 1988 Freedom 36. I had to get another surveyor to inspect some work that was done on the bottom before final sign off and he questioned the standing water in the bilge. The first surveyor noted it but didn't seem to be much concerned about it. I know the float...

Re: Surveying an F38

I emailed Mr. Escalera today and he offered to contact someone on the west coast. Thanks for the contact. I am aware of the cored deck and hulls and plan to ask the surveyor how he assess that. I read a good article recently about the vagaries of taking readings from a moisture meter. I appreciate t...

Re: Surveying an F38

Ah yes, I'm on the west coast, near San Francisco. But this is good because he might know someone out here or at least suggest some of the things to look out for. Thank you.

Surveying an F38

I just put an offer on a Freedom 36/38 (sloop). If the owner accepts, I plan to get vessel and engine surveys done at the beginning of the year. It would be great to find a surveyor who's experienced with the Freedoms. Regardless, I am interested in hearing from others about what things I should def...

Advice on buying a 36/38 ketch or cat-rigged sloop

Hi, I am brand new to your forum but have been reading the great posts here for some time as I have been trying to decide on what boat to buy. It seems the Freedoms keep drawing me back and I hear good things about them. I hope I am posting this in the correct forum.... I have looked at a couple of ...
