I just saw an ad in the back of Soundings. It seems that Webasto is now making a "marine sunroof system". Automotive style (opening) sunroof, available for OEM or retrofit in 7 sizes. Sounds expensive, but maybe worth a look

Re: Building a hard dodger
I like the "less upright" look of the greater slant! The absence of a "standard boom" with boom vang gives you a lot more flexibility than what I'd have in the same installation. I also like the integral "dam" to drain the water that gets past the breakwater. That's obviously something that they "le...

Re: Building a hard dodger
well...your most absolute water tightness would probably be fairlead ferrules for each line (sized to fit each line) cast into the leading edge of the dodger, but that would present problems of its own... 1) The path of the line (in tension) would need to be exquisitely fair from the breakwater back...

Re: Building a hard dodger
Sounds good to me. I'm going to have to bow to the greater knowledge of others on the question of strength, layup schedule etc. One thing you might consider...given the relative permanency of your installation here...is leaving enough of a gap on the top/sides of the hatch turtle to be able to unscr...

Re: Building a hard dodger
I have a couple of questions, Michel... Will this dodger be constructed as a separate, removable "stand alone" attachment, or are you planning to glass it to the deck permanently? Have you considered designing the forward windows essentially "pop-out" when relatively little pressure is applied from ...

Re: Mizzen sheet on F39PHS (also mast climbing)
There is no more load on the masthead block with the waterbag approach than there is with any other method of "hauling you up"... Look at it this way...in order to raise a 165 lb load on one "side" of the halyard, you need at least 165 lbs of downward force applied to the other "side". The waterbag ...

Re: Mizzen sheet on F39PHS (also mast climbing)
I assure you that I'm not pulling anyone's leg about the water bag mast ascension. One more thing you might consider... Have a tether line attached (and running free) to the bottom of the bag...That way, if the boat gets rolling and rocking while you and the bag are both "out of reach" and you end u...

Re: Mizzen sheet on F39PHS (also mast climbing)
You'll also have to leave the hose attached until the bag descends to deck level, at which point your (hopefully nimble-fingered crew) can remove it and quickly seal the inlet...before enough water escapes to cause your descent. Failure to do this could cause you to find yourself lying on the deck w...

Re: Articles on Freedoms from UK's Yachting Monthly Sep 09
I'm not a copyright attorney (or any other kind), but I think that once George put that photo out on the internet (here) without a copyright mark on it, the photo became fair game for anyone else to claim and/or use...in fact...methinks that the MAGAZINE now holds copyright on his work. My "horsehai...

Re: Articles on Freedoms from UK's Yachting Monthly Sep 09
Isn't that the same "winter pic" that George posted of his boat a while back? I didn't see any attribution for it, but I hope he at least got recognized in there somewhere. I'm with y'all on the "sniffy" British arrogance dismissing the interior as "somewhat American"...so WHAT?? It's an American BO...
