UK South Coast Surveyor Recommendation Required

Greetings all It is that time of year for insurance renewal and a few are asking for a new survey. My last surveyor did not impress me - missed a few bits and listed things like "should pull the mast to make sure it is ok" So can anyone recommend a UK Southampton coast surveyor that knows freedoms? ...

Re: Folding Prop

Hi Mike

I am hoping to brave the cold this coming weekend and go for a sail so if there any photos of the gunmount you need to make it all make sense then let me know.

Keep well
Peter

Re: Folding Prop

Hi Mike You asked about heavier weather. I have had two occasions heading down wind in string conditions. One was the round the island race in 2016. Go this by a 40 kit gust and that took out the vang completely, bit of a mess. Otherwise we were fine. Jury rigged a vang and carried on. Managed to be...

Re: Folding Prop

Hi Mike Never tried a preventer on the camberspar. The lines you can see there are either the burgee halyard or the jib sheet. As a teenager I used to sail a Fireball dinghy and that had a deck hole and sock for the kite. This is just the same. I could definitely improve the mouth of the deck sock t...

Re: Folding Prop

Hi Mike I sail a UK version of the F32 (an F33) with the Hoyt Gunmount and I do use it. Mine was the first one built in the UK and they didn't get a couple of things quite right and now the pole needs some replacement parts to slide properly but it is still a brilliant way of flying a kite. I quite ...

Re: prop design - testing results

Well Feronia is a good name for a Freedom. That was what she was called when I got her and I wasn't going to change her name, she has had several names through her life. Her original name was Fancy Freedom when she was reviewed by PBO in June 1986. But the Goddess of Freedmen is by far a better name...

Re: prop design - testing results

Just put a new Darglow prop on as well.... waiting for Feronia to be lowered back in the water then I shall see how it performs. The last prop had become dezincified.

Thanks folks, definitely some food for thought there. Klemhiest looks like a good knot to learn.

Re: What do you use as your VHF aerial? Freedom 33 Cat Sloop

Thanks Mike & Bill, Mike I think you are right, mine is unwinding itself due to the motion of the mast. It just happens faster in aggressive short chop. I had thought of using loctite but wasn't sure about it... I think I will now. Just wait for half term and then hoist my 10 year old daughter up th...
