Singlehand racer on F30 needs input on rudder issue
My friend, Mike, is racing his Freedom 30, Jacqueline, to Hawaii right now. He reports that his rudder is stiff and hard to turn. He dove on it. There's nothing fouling it and it appears to be in good shape visually. He has also looked over the entire system. The ram was disconnected and backdrive w...

Re: Roller furler
Nice! Thanks for posting the update and the pictures. Where did you mount the winches? What size? Any additional details on the set up would be great to hear. I've been thinking about doing this for years now....

Re: Converting to reefing without shuttle block
Here is a picture of the first reef, which runs through the butterfly blocks in the boom. It also goes through a block at the cringle to reduce friction, but I'm still not sure I like this set up. I can't get the clew all the way down. I think I'll have a rigger look at it and give me some advice. I...

Re: Converting to reefing without shuttle block
This is how my mast base looked before I converted 4 of those blocks to 2 Garhauer fiddle blocks with snap shackle and one with a Becket. It's sooo much cleaner now.

Re: Converting to reefing without shuttle block
Yeah, these reefing lines running up and down and all over just confuse me. I have two reefs in my sail. The first reef has the butterfly blocks still intact in the boom. The second reef is a single line. I will take pictures and try to post later today of the block set up on the mast collar and whe...

Re: mast step issue
Bob, even though the gap is toward the bow and seems counter intuitive (to me anyway), I am pretty sure this is the channel for the drain if water comes down from inside the mast although that area looks a bit different than in my F38. There's a drain tube running underneath the top hat and this see...

Stepping the mast this week
So after three months, I'm finally ready to step the mast on my F38 this Thursday. There's great info on the forum about removing the collar and the (original) blue ring but not so much about how this all fits together in the reverse. It seems to me that I need to fit the collar and the bolts on fir...

Re: Sailing main alone
Isn't it grand when everyone around is taking a knock and the Freedom just lets out a little sigh like, "is that all you got?" and then settles back down? I am curious how old your main is and whether you have it loose footed or not. The reason is because I have two vastly different experiences betw...

Re: Anyone have a panting rod in their F36/38?
Hmmm. We really need a poll to see which Freedoms have these rods and which don't. Funny you should think the forces would be downward. There's a thread I started on this topic on Cruisers Forum where someone doubted the need for a panting rod on an unstayed rig, but another person said that, with l...

Re: Anyone have a panting rod in their F36/38?
Thanks, Michael. Any idea how the bolts are attached? It's become a bit of a mystery after the yard removed a couple of the bolts by mistake.
