Re: zinc stink
If you see a blie hull F38 (sail #38086) come say hello. We're going out shortly to bob around and watch the planes too. As to the zincs, I had the same problem. Was changing them out every six weeks. I recently redid all the wiring and my belief is that it was the bonding wire from the engine to th...

Re: at our dock
That's cute I dive my boat and keep thinking that if a sea lion ever comes up to investigate in our dark water, it's going to give me a heart attack. A 6-ft manatee might do it, too!

Is that a New England waterfront somewhere...? In Florida, the roofs would be flatter

Re: 1988 F36 w/wet deck - considering making offer anyway
Welcome to the Freedom world! You're buying a solid boat, but one that has probably not had many upgrades over the years. I've been working on mine since I bought her almost 4 years ago. But don't be frightened off because it would be much worse on any other boat in your price range!! Everyone who's...

Re: Update on Singlehanded TransPac racer Jacqueline
Wooohooo! Way to go, Mike :) Yes, I plan to tell everyone how great the F30 is for single-handing across oceans. Can't wait to hear more about the trip and your learnings. I've had the camber spar shake loose twice on me (both times singlehanding in big wind) so I now have the hooks on the aft end t...

Re: Update on Singlehanded TransPac racer Jacqueline
Thanks, Geoff! I sent your comment on to Mike. There might not be anything he can do at present. He has expressed his thanks, as well, that he has this community to help him keep a sanity check on things

Re: Update on Singlehanded TransPac racer Jacqueline
Mike has been doing well and is over halfway there. He should be arriving July 20 or thereabouts. He is now in deep blue water and sunny skies, so it has been a bit more pleasant sailing, but he's also experiencing another issue related to the mast. Just before the race, he had the boat hauled and t...

Update on Singlehanded TransPac racer Jacqueline
The message below was sent by Mike Cunningham this morning from JACQUELINE, a Freedom 30, who's racing to Kauai, Hawaii in the Singlehanded Sailing Society's TransPac race. He had some rudder concerns recently, but seems to have gotten them worked out and he's continuing on. You can follow him at th...

Re: Singlehand racer on F30 needs input on rudder issue
Not sure. It was asked, but I have heard nothing more since the initial report. They're communicating on single sideband between boats, with one standing nearby, but I don't think Mike himself has an SSB.

Re: Rudder bearing on F38
If I recall correctly (amazing how quickly I forget to write this stuff down and no longer have recall on it), there is a single bolt that runs through the rudder post and holds the rudder stock. Then the quadrant clamps on top. I don't have a radial drive, but it looks like it would attach in a sim...
