Re: Major keel work - anyone have floor pics of 36/38?
There's a leak into the bilge. No bueno! There's also a bit of deflection in the keel so we're going to build up the floor in the aft area. I'm heading back to Hawaii in July (and then back) so we need everything to be solid (and my mind without anxiety....).

Oh wow, Josh, I'm just now seeing the bracing you installed for the table legs. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've dumped a whole table of food when I kicked that leg. How do you like it? Is it ever in your way when you're at sea and not using the table0?

Thanks, Jim D and Rich, for input about your Freedoms. It's probably not a bad design for coastal cruising but the naval architect called this a "small floor." The floor needs to extend at least to the base of the settees to give that section a lot more strength. I'll post the after pics. I promise!

I appreciate that reminder on the terminology. That is what the naval architect had explained to me, too. To my landlubber brain, it seems awkward to call those cross braces "the floor."
I love this forum. Lots of good info here and it's very helpful when people post their experiences. Thanks all

Thanks, Josh!! I think you nailed it. Really appreciate your post and the pictures. The yard is going to extend those stringers to the settees and grind out the damaged fiberglass from a previous grounding. I wonder what year this changed with the F36/38s? I'll give Dennis a call now, too.

Major keel work - anyone have floor pics of 36/38?
So I'm hauled out here in RIchmond and about to get a fairly big job done on the floor and keel. A naval architect who used to work for Gary Mull thought the floor did not look like his design (Kynntana is a Freedom 38). I said I'd ask around to see if anyone has drawings of the floor at the bilge. ...

Re: Camber spar
I put a Dyneema forestay on after breaking the wire twice in 3 years. I like that sail chafe "platform" as a way of keeping the sail from dropping onto the deck. My plan was to run a PVC pipe a little ways up the forestay to have the camberspar rest on that, but always felt a bit hackneyed and would...

Re: Camber spar
Thanks for this question, Mike, because I see some info posted that I had not come across yet. Now that you know which end is up (which is funny because the camberspar can only go one way when the sail is up) you might put a topping lift on the loop that's on top. It keeps the camberspar in the corr...

Re: Mast brothers
I'm curious how your mast broke. That "thin fiberglass ring" doesn't sound like the aluminum ring that is through bolted on deck for the Freedom 30/36 that I am aware of. Because the mast is so bendy, I would think the wedge that goes between the mast and the deck structure should also be flexible/c...
