Re: Mast creak ... again

There might be a bit of confusion in this thread. I think Nausikaa is an early UK-built F30 cat ketch, so the foot of the mast sits inside a ring, not on a top hat. There were two later arrangements - a top hat with a single through bolt, and a top hat plus an L-shaped bracket bolted to the mast bef...

Re: pulling the mast on a freedom 45

The slinging advice for Freedom masts is here in F28 CK info.pdf, on the eighth page:

I made a suggestion about mast boots (use a drainage pipe connector) here:

Re: Unstepping Mast - 28 Mull

Marianne II - that's certainly a project boat. :) The deck collar on the 28CK has enough height above the rings to use a mast boot to keep the water out, so no sealant is needed between mast and collar, only between collar and deck - any silicon sealant that doesn't act as an adhesive. You can buy m...

Re: Is this normal

I find when running the yanmar the hot water system gets REALLY hot...great for showers but we have to be careful. Is your calorifier not fitted with a mixing bypass? It fits between the water inlet and outlet and has an adjustment knob so that cold water is mixed with the hot. That way you can mak...

Re: New engine for UK F 35 cat ketch

Not a F35 owner, but I am a fan of Beta diesels - I put a new 13HP in my last boat and I have a 20HP in Feronia. I've also been in much bigger yachts and motor boats with Betas. The customer support is excellent, particularly for a UK-based owner because it is a British company that assembles the en...

Re: how fast is the freedom 28 / 30 (u.k.–version)?

No, a fairly heavy displacement hull with a waterline length of 7.85 metres and a theoretical maximum hull speed of 6.8 knots. Of course that speed is not a limit, but it takes a large amount of energy to get over it. It's at low wind speeds that the cat ketch loses out. The standard rig is under-ca...

If you look through the threads in this sub-forum, you'll find the posts that deal with F28/30 CK documentation (same boat, built in US/UK).

Re: how fast is the freedom 28 / 30 (u.k.–version)?

Yes. I've just been doing it.

Beam reaching under full sail. Sea moderate. Wind 12-14 kts boat 6-6.2 kts.
Broad reaching main only. Sea slight to moderate. Wind 20-25 kts boat 6.5-7 kts Occasionally faster when surfing.

Re: Centerboard riggin

It seems that the F28/30 is slightly different from the F33/35 - but maybe that varies from boat to boat. My plate has a double eye - one hole for the lifting pennant, one for the restraint strop. Plate00001.jpg The hole on the left (aft) is for the restraint strop. The other end of the strop goes t...
