Re: Holding Tank
On my 1988 F36/38, the old holding tank was converted to a fresh water flushing system and remains in position under and just aft of the wash basin in the head. There is no connection to the fresh water system of the boat. A new holding tank was then plumbed and installed under the v berth. The v be...

Re: Lewmar vs. Maxwell Windlass
Jim- My Rocna 20 is on order. I thought about the Rocna 25, but I think the 20 will do just fine. Good to hear that your experience is a good one. My Maxwell RC 10/10 arrived just this week. I'll install a new bow roller and will post pics when it is all done. Based on all the research and opinions ...

Re: Lewmar vs. Maxwell Windlass
Thanks Michel and Jim. I've ordered the Maxwell RC 10/10 with capstan and will exchange the stock gypsy for one that accepts 5/16 G4 chain and connect it all to a Rocna 20 on the bow.

Lewmar vs. Maxwell Windlass
This is a follow up to my Dec. 2008 post concerning my stuck Simpson Lawrence Seawolf 520 windlass on my F38. It remains stuck, so I am replacing it. Options are a horizontal windlass or a vertical. I'm leaning towards a vertical. Next question is Lewmar vs. Maxwell. Since my original post, anyone w...

Re: Where did the bilge water come from?
I'll confirm what everyone else has said. Same boat, same cover, same conditions, same water in the bilge.

Re: Ma and RI, what bottom paint have you been happy with?
I have been using Micron Extra for several years on Buzzards Bay. Works well but is expensive. No barnacles, little slim, no grass.
Next year I am consider Blue Water from ipaint, which received a very good review in practical sailor:

Re: F 35 running rigging replacement
Hi Mark-
I keep my F36/38 in Mattapoisett and have observed Twende over the years. You are right to want to replace the running rigging. I think in the last 5-6 years it was afloat for one season, the remainder have been on the hard, in various states of cover. Congratulations on your purchase.

Re: Weeping Keel Bolts
I'm posting an update to my original question so that this information is available on the site. After a great conversation with Paul Dennis at Warren River Boatworks, I've learned the following. Paul will be doing some work on my boat this winter. The conversation pertains to a 1988 F36/38. Other m...

Re: Yanmar locked up
Agree with Geoff. It is important that if your engine fails to start to not continue to crank the engine. The seawater pump will continue to pump water filling up your muffler and backing up water into your engine. Your engine cylinder will fill with water and your engine will attempt to compress wa...
