Re: Taking out the slap in hydraulic steering system

I just looked back through emails and our ram is an old Teleflex one. The tech support guys never did tell me the Ram number, they just ID'ed it from photos and measurements I sent them and told me which kit (that covers more than one ram) to order. Sorry I can't be more help there.

Re: Taking out the slap in hydraulic steering system

Hi Rick, Congratulations! First of all, I have to say that our hydraulic steering is *not* factory. The boat originally had cable steering. Also, you are correct that our steering rams at the least are different. I will say that it was tech support at hyanautic that finally helped me out. Aside from...

Re: Rudder Play

That's very strange. A rotational slack like that is not rudder bearing wear. That would be a side to side knock (or fore and aft). I agree with Geoff on this. I'd check all linkage. If the helm and cable are not moving, check the quadrant where it attaches to the shaft for slack.

Re: Muffler/Exhaust - Freedom 39

More interesting yet. Did your friend change mixing elbows also or shim up to the larger hose? I'm determined to do everything I can for the rebuilt engine as we will relay on her for another year or two of cruising before putting the boat on the market. I'll take facts and figures over "this is the...

Re: Muffler/Exhaust - Freedom 39

This is a good thread, Mike, I'm very interested in any specs you might have for back pressure for the 4-108. I'm rebuilding one for Marquesa this spring and if it needs upgrading the exhaust system then it will get it at that time. No use going to all the trouble if it's just going to have to work ...

Re: Help need on Freedom purchase

Sounds like a bargain to me and a good move up for you.

It also sounds like you are taking the proper due diligence with survey and all.

Good luck to you and hope the process goes smoothly to everyone's liking.

That's how they often did it in "the old days". Great work!

Re: Muffler/Exhaust - Freedom 39

The aqualift should take your cooling water as high as possible as soon as possible (within reason obviously) with the rest of the run downhill. In the U.S. Exhaust hose is sold by I.D. Our 2 inch exhaust hose on Marquesa is 2 inch ID. The exhaust elbow is approximately 2 inch O.D.

Re: Freedom Mast Wedge Replacement

I was recently shocked to discover that our main mast was loose in the partners. The mastic type seal ring had worked itself up and out on it's own. I slacked the topping lift allowing the main boom to rest on the canopy, then took a line around the mast to the windlass and goosed it forward so that...
