Re: 40/40 Tall Rig vs. not so tall
Ed- we have hull # 11 which was one of the "tall" rigs which I believe was the same rig as on the 45. It was "cut down" from the top by what I was told to be about 5 feet so that it is now a few inches over 60' (ICW friendly). We had new sails made by Haarstick when we bought the boat two years ago ...

Re: Gone Transatlantic
Congratulations on your crossing. great to hear stories that don't include horror shows. Preparation and conservatism clearly served you well. Enjoy your sailing on the otherside! Paul

Re: ST 50 wind and depth display
JIm - thanks for the heads up. I saw the E-Bay displays and but thought that I would have better luck with the Freedom Owners as the E-Bay bidding looks like it's rigged to go one dollar over whatever I bid and must be on a program to do so. I'd rather just speak with an owner, agree on a price and ...

ST 50 wind and depth display
Fellow Freedom owners, I am looking to purchase the display only for the wind (speed and direction) and the depth in a ST 50 instrument system installed on our Freedom 40/40. Anyone intersted in selling please let me know. In Raritan Bay in NJ but obviously open to shipping from anywhere. Both of my...

Re: Strut Leakage
Al - have not had that problem with our 40/40. Tube issue could be around the lower bearing. We just had our entire rudder reworked at Lockwood's due to storm damage from Sandy. New upper and lower bearings. While the rudder was out I took a look at the tube arrangement and I can see where if the hu...

Lewmar clutch stoppers for 40/40
Hello all, Last year I replaced almost all of the running rigging on our 40/40 (hull #11). During last season I noticed that the main hahlyard was slipping significantly while under sail. I am in the process of tryin to find rebuild parts for the Lewmar stoppers that were original to the boat. I was...

Re: Sandy
Here in New Jersey in Cheesequake Creek off of Raritan Bay our 40/40 survived Sandy. She is back on the hard and probably alot better off than had we had her hauled and blocked next to the water's edge where othere did not fair so well. Tidal surge about 13-14 feet

Re: 40/40 Main Halyard Sheave
Scott - I would suggest that you contact Paul Dennis at Warren River BoatWorks in Warren river RI. 401-245-6949 or WRBtwks@aol.com. Paul completely reworked the mast on our 40/40 last year which included a new set of sheaves at the masthead including an accomodation for a spare main halyard. In addi...

Re: running rigging line
Rick - thanks for your thoiughts on this issue. After giving it some more thought I came to the same conclusion. Probably not worth the price (double or more) for high tech with marginal benefit on the main sheet. Paul
