Interest in Freedom 38

Post by shallow water sailor »

A 1991 Freedom 38 has caught my eye, but I can't seem to find any information about the boat. With the jib up front it is a slightly different configuration than other Freedoms. Can anyone tell me about the windward and dead down wind ability of the boat? Does the shoal draft of 4 feet severly compromise upwind ability? What kind of longevity and problems are associated with the unstayed carbon fiber mast?

Any information is appreciated

Read The World's Best Sailboats by Ferenc Mate (Amazon has it http://www.amazon.com/Worlds-Best-Sailb ... 0920256112) Freedom 36 (38 without the swim platform) is reviewed.

I have a 38 and love it but as in all things it is personal. Would be happy to share with you more at your leisure. ereiss -at-gmail-dot-com

Practical sailor has a review of Freedom 36

Freedom 36 and 38 are identical boats. Same hull. rig and interior, Freedom 38 has additional swim platform.

Friend of mine has Freedom 36 with shallow draft. It is great boat. It does everything well...
