I use the halyard to pull the mast ring up when I used adhesive. You have to work your way around it with a putty knife cutting away what you and and pulling from different angles. When it releases, it does so with a bang and may scratch the paint, so placing a cloth around the top edge may be a good idea.

Also, it appears that I misspoke when I said that I didn't worry about water coming down the bolts as I was just forward looking at ours and saw that there was silicon under the washers.

I had not pulled the ring and mast for many many years. I also found using halyards helped to get the ring up. One caution, try to apply balanced upward pull on the ring so one side doesn't give causing a ring pitch into the mast.

Is it a casting that is brittle? It looked the stsinless bolts may have corroded a bit making it more difficult.

Well I am undertaking the mast boot chore over the next couple of weeks. When I bought Circe (F40/40) she had no mast boot. Just what looked to be a nice seal of silicon in the top of the collar. The silicon kept water out for a while, but is now cracked and leaking. I plan on the following:
1) Re-caulk the top of the mast collar with silicon.
2) Apply a 4 inch wide silicon tape strip over the joint.
3) Add a mast boot.
4) Add a canvas cover like George did above in this thread.

I am curious about the mast boot. I measured 39" circumference on the mast and 43 on the collar. I am wondering if there is a mast boot folks have found that works well.

I was looking at this one. Sailing Specialties for 30-44inches.

That's the one I use, and it works great. Just be careful not to cut away too much of it, as you want a nice snug fit. If I recall correctly, I just cut out the innermost circle.

You might like to take a look for flexible drainage pipe connectors. I don't know details for the American market, but this is a US-based plumber demonstrating one on pipes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0CjCHPkTp0

They come in a very wide range of sizes and the price includes stainless steel jubilee clips. I have two on my F28/30 CK and I have no problems with leaks. They are these https://www.flexseal.co.uk/products/fle ... ZCE5GZ7nGg - size chosen to suit the diameters of the upstand on the collar and the mast.

The only caulking is between the collar and the deck, which does, of course, also seal the bolt holes. I have no caulking between the collar and the mast.

I'm confused... How does the Drainage Pipe Connector attach to the deck?

Don't you have a collar attached to the deck? Like this (that's on a 30CK)

The connector fits round the collar above the rings that take the blocks. The same place you'd stick tape if you wrapped it. I don't have a picture of that part of my boat - I don't have a moulded plug between collar and mast.
