depth finder headache

Post by casagf66 »

Hey gang,

Getting the boat ready to head out to Block Island race week and would really like to get my darn depth fider to work. I have a silva nexus controller on board, the controller seems to work fine and the speedo works but I have had no luck with the depth finder. Does anyone have experience with these suckres? Also can I install a new depth finder on the boat while it is still in the water?

Thanks in advance

I am not familiar with your depth finder but if you are considering installing a new depth finder and don't want to haul the boat you can either mount the transducer to shoot through the hull if you can find a suitable place in the hull, it has to be solid glass , no core , for it to work properly. Ive, also installed thru-hull transducers in the water using dive gear and a topside person but you need to be very competant and careful to pull this off. Do yoiu know if its the transducer that is the problem ? Perhaps you could just replace that . You could temporarily hang a new transducer ocer the side connected to your display unit to see if that is the problem. Wish I knew more about your particular unit. Rick
