Diesel smell in cabin

Post by amcclung »

Hello. I have a smell of diesel fuel in the cabin. Called a mechanic and he checked out the fuel lines for leaks and tightened all connections. I'm new to this forum and not good at finding where others have discussed the problem and solution. I am not a mechanic. I have a 1985 Freedom 29, docked in Chicago. Any help appreciated.

tightening all connections won't necessarily help. you might want to consider replacing all the copper washers on all connections. have you been able to exclude the diesel tank itself?

I had a diesel smell in my F-30 and found a small leak in the bottom seam of the fuel tank.

Replaced the tank to solve the problem.

Ditto on my F30. Replaced the tank about 12 years ago. Spent a lot of time replacing banjo washers too.I always wondered what they were called. Thank you Freedom board.

To get rid of any diesel smell in my F25 I run my Yanmar 1gm10 on 100% soybean oil. My exhaust smells like fried rice. I have been using soybean oil for 5 years now without any problems.
