How to Service Loose Shifter?

Post by PeacefulWarrior »

Greetings,
Freedom 33 1986
My gear shifter is so slack that it will not hold its throttle position. Are there any instructions here, or can someone provide instructions on how to service the shifter? I have been unable to find directions in the forum.
Thank you kindly.

Two things:
1) you can get a cable brake, like this: http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/us ... able+Brake and put it on the cable somewhere near the shifter.

2) if the shifter is kind of wobbly and it looks like the attached picture, there's an allen screw opposite the shifter through the chrome hub. Loosen that and pry off the chrome hub. There's a collar that you can then snug down around the shifter axle.

Hope that helps.
