Water in the cylinders

Post by Sailing-61-North »

Well thru a stupid mistake I sucked up water into my engine. Yes I am a dumb arse- briefly had water hose to raw water...

So today I confirmed what I thought by pulling the injectors and cranked the motor by hand. Water came out each cylinder. I placed a shop vac at each opening and turned the hand crank until I didn't see any more water (fresh) coming out. I will do this a few more times.

Now for advice and my game plan.
1. I am going to change the oil and filter a couple of times.

2. I am thinking of placing a hairdryer to each opening for an hour or so. Any recommendations on placing anything lubricant wise?

3. Well I have new injector parts so might as well rebuild those since they are out.

Any suggestions are helpful and yes I'm an idiot.

You didn't mention putting oil in the cylinders but a little and then rotate to coat the cylinder walls, rings and piston will slow rust and corrosion which can still be a problem even with fresh water.

I was chatting with a fellow mechanic. He mention a few tablespoons of 2-cycle mix oil for each cylinder. I guess the good thing is it has only been a couple of days.

Injectors are down in the shop soaking in "Seafoam". Will head down and clean them up later tonight.

40 year old diesel - see how much more life she has. Considered a new Beta 25 but ouch.

Came back down after work. Spun the motor by hand and had nothing come out. Placed a hair dryer pointed down each opening for 30 minutes on low. Once done will put an ounce (3-mL) 2-cycle oil in each cylinder and spin motor again to lubricant. At same time changing the oil and filter. Just waiting for NAPA to open.

Will put the injectors back in, hook everything back up, bleed the fuel system and see what happens.

Told my neighbor if this didn't work I was going to steal his 350 outboard and strap it to the stern.

Well its running. Will let it go for 20-30 minutes then drain the oil again.
