Mast boot okay?

Post by Mondonico »

I looked at Freedom 38 today that I am interested in purchasing. Is this mast base acceptable or does it need work to be watertight?

I would add a photo but it keeps rejecting even the smallest ones...

Naa, that beige thing is supposed to be stretched over the white powder coated ring that's bolted down below it. If the rubber is still supple enough to pull back over the ring, it can be held in place there with a very large hose clamp. If it's hard as a rock (seems likely), then it should be replaced. Not a big deal if you're going to pull the mast. I replaced mine with the largest one from SSI Custom Plastics, which is No. 91400000 in their online catalog.

Thanks Josh! Yes, that existing rubber is very hard. Not puling the mast I hope so will look for a boot that can wrap around and seal well along the "seam."

I hate to admit it, but I used "flex tape" it is cheap and works.
