Rigid boom vang for an F38
Rigid boom vang for an F38
I am installing a rigid boom vang on my F38. Any recommendations on type and any special installation issues ( bolt vs rivet, backing plate for mast, etc ) ?

I have a 39 Express and put Garhauer rigid vangs on both booms about 10 years ago. They will make the collar also based on measurements you provide. They have done a few and will provide instructions on how to take measurements. As I sail singlehanded most of the time the biggest improvement for me is when raising and lowering the sails although sail shape on a broad reach is much easier to maintain.

Paul Dennis had a stainless steel colllar made for the base of the mast when we added our rigid vang 6 years ago. No problems, and we’ve certainly enjoyed not relying on the lazy jacks to support the boom when not sailing.

Thank you for the advice. I am going with the Garhauer RV20 with a custom collar for the mast. Total cost $695 incl collar and shipping.

I went with Garhauer for my F38 as well, though I went with the RV25.

For the same reasons stated by F32Circle I'm thinking of doing the same thing on my F25.
