Adding a wind sensor to my M28 masthead, and I'm planning to remove the masthead to be able to add zip ties, and possibly foam. there are two sets of 3 bolts on the front of the mast, which I assume you pull and the unit is free to come out. Anyone have experience/ suggestions on this?

Re: Masthead removal
Yes, it's that easy unless you have bad corrosion of the bolts. I pulled the old masthead crane in 2016 and a friend built a larger one so I could add a tri-color light and other things that did not have room for previously on the old crane structure. I also added foam to the new wiring. I have the mast down again and thinking about adding zip ties to the cables because of the pounding in the mast of the bundle when going downwind in big sea state. Anyone else have this issue? I'm concerned the zip ties are going to interfere with the halyards that also run up the mast. The foam also deteriorates over time and causes a big mess at the base.

When I rewired my mast I did the zip tie thing and it's never been a problem with the halyards. Nice not to have the mess of decomposing foam too.

Thanks for the info,I am adding a tricolor/ anchor light, and was thinking I would mount it on a post to get it above the crane..

Re: Masthead removal
On a related question what have folks been using to seal at the deck? I used a Boat Life product that promptly cracked and leaked and makes a ton of noise. I want to dig it out and reseal with a better product. 4200? Something else?

Nice! Who did the orange powder coat? Were they able to do one small piece like that or was there more?

All of the mast head cranes look beautiful! Tell me how it went with cables down the mast! I had a heck of time threading cables through mine a couple years ago and will need to do that again soon….foam at the base of the mast was tough!
