F25 Masttop photos

Post by unfetteredalexandria »

I would like to add a wind instrument to my round-mast F25, but I remember that there is not much space up there. Does anyone have a photo of the mast top, especially one that shows where a wind instrument could be mounted? Or, sans photos, any advice based on what you can remember?

I fabricated a delrin extension to mount my wind instrument to.

There isn't much room up there. My solution was to get my local machine shop to make me a SS bracket that I attached to the mast top, and then attached my anchor light and radio antenna to that. It was cheap, and gave me a lot more room to work with. That left room on the actual mast top to attach the wind unit.

My mast head with aluminum extension for analog wind vane, and plastic extension for wireless wind instrument. My bird deterrents are 100% effective.

Looks like this photo is also useful to those F25 owners that are asking about (un)stepping the mast. Your A-frame is clearly visible in the background. I surmise that all those nasty points meant to harrass the birds also act as static electricity dispersers with the effect of preventing lightning strikes. Herm

As a follow-up, the attached photo shows how I finally decided to add the wind instrument to the F25 mast top plate. The Tacktick base is small enough that it will just fit on the shelf that extends forward of the mast, with a small overhang. This requires rotating the base of the Perko masthead light 90 deg.
